General

Please note that we are involved in numerous projects, some small, some large and some involving many other people and organisations.
The projects listed here are the major ones that the normal person in the community can relatively easily and safely participate in, but are by no means all the projects and activities we are involved in.
Many major projects also involve numerous smaller projects.

One of the guiding philosophies underlying our projects is that the police are not the solution to preventing crime.

Whether the police are effective or not in crime prevention and reaction, it is the members of the community  who are committing the crimes against each other, and who are thus responsible for the crime rates, not the police.

The police as an organisation can only respond after a crime has occurred.
Other than that, they can guide and advise, but on their own they cannot prevent crime or even reduce it, unless the community works with them.

The long-term solution lies within the community and not with more police or courts or prisons.

In order to facilitate Sector Policing, the CPF has assisted in creating a comprehensive set of guidelines on emergency preparation and crime prevention for participating individuals and businesses, a lot of which can be downloaded from the Crime Prevention Resources category on this site.
Due to the size and amount of material, not all the material could be posted.

A section of the guidelines consists of brief, categorised crime prevention tips designed to be copied, pasted and rearranged by anyone who wishes to create their own pamphlets.
There are also four complete manuals covering the whole spectrum of activities:
1) one by the Dept of Safety and Security on the Policy, Framework and Guidelines relating to setting up a CPF
2) one by the CSIR and Dept of Safety and Security on how to design crime prevention strategies
3) one by the Dept of Safety and Security in the Eastern Cape providing guidelines to SAPS on their activities eg searches, statements, summaries of laws etc
4) one by us compiled from programmes and advice by SA, UK and US Law Enforcement Agencies, and numerous other organisations such as the US Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Red Cross and numerous others on crime prevention, disaster management and emergency management.

A CD containing all this information and much more has been created for participants in the Sector Policing programme.
This is not a commercial CD, and we make no profit from it.
The CD is available for R10 per CD to such participants purely to cover the cost of the actual CD itself.

The intention is to create over time an electronic library of crime prevention material, presentations etc that can be used by our members and SAPS.
As time permits we will be creating pamphlets that can be printed and distributed as they are off a CD.
Please feel free to contribute your ideas and suggestions.
We encourage every suburb and community to create a residents association, business association and neighbourhood watch, and to recruit residents into the SAPS reservists, and we are prepared to assist wherever we can.
If you are interested in such activities but do not wish to work with our organisation, you can visit our Links page which has details of numerous other organisations which can assist you.
Our aim is not to control organisations or activities, but to facilitate them.

Communication

Information about the CPF, activities and meetings is available from our website, the local Councillors, the Booysens SAPS, the Booysens SAPS Sector Managers, local participating neighbourhood watches and residents associations. Also all political organisations, as part of their duties, represent their wards at the meetings, or at least they should be doing so.

In addition the Southern Courier, which is distributed free all over the Booysens Precinct and beyond, kindly publishes the dates of our meetings a week or so beforehand.
The various Sectors hold monthly meetings, contact the SAPS CPF Liaison Officer for details of the various meetings.

Networking

Active members participate in numerous meetings and activities and are expected to spread out amongst the community and recruit members and supporters for the CPF/Sector Crime Forums  and/or specific projects.
